Introduction to Quantum Computing

Swearingen Engineering Center, 2A17

Lex Whalen

This week Rabins Wosti will give a talk on quantum computing. He will start off with the motivation behind quantum computation from the perspective of theoretical computer science, and then will briefly discuss the laws of quantum mechanics that gives quantum computation an immense computation power. Famous Shor’s algorithm will be briefly discussed in light of quantum cryptography. Then, he will touch on the fundamentals of quantum computing including quantum gates, unitary matrices and quantum circuits. Finally, Rabins will discuss the NISQ era, the quantum supremacy claimed by Google in 2019 and finally, conclude the talk with the discussion on the use of quantum circuits for machine learning.
