Next Generations Machine Learning

Swearingen Engineering Center, 2A17

Lex Whalen

This week we are going to have a Next-Generations talk focusing on Machine Learning (ML). We will briefly explore the previous generations of ML, that being Multi Layer Perceptrons (MLPs) and Deep/Convolutional Neural Networks (DNNs/CNNs) before we then move onto the Next-Generation of Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs). SNNs are based heavily on the human brain, specifically how information is shared between neurons using activation "spikes". We will discuss how SNNs work, why they are important, and what the future looks like for the field of Machine Learning with respect to the growing use of SNNs.
